Dynamo by Andy Dougan

One of the toughest books I ever translated is Dynamo by Andy Dougan (2002). Also known as The Death Match, it is the story of bravery and tragedy in Nazi-occupied Kiev. The book was published in Israel by Glory Publications in 2010.

DYNAMO משחק המוות

The book tells the story of the Nazi occupation of Ukraine and of the football team FC Dynamo, that was far superior to the Nazi team in football and eventually was ordered to play one final match with the German team – Play to lose, for if they won, they would be tortured. The ending chapters of this book were indeed those of torture and death and as such were extremely difficult to cope with.

Here is a good review of the book in Amazon. The book got a great review in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
